 “The New Exchange”

— A Poem for REMAP (in the style of Lazarus’ iconic welcome)

Not like the hordes of waste in silent landfills,

cold with forgetting, sealed from hopeful hands;

Here stands a beacon over storerooms and workshops,

a lamp of reuse lit by generous lands. “Give me your idle tools, your stored-away supplies,

your shelves of surplus waiting to be freed.

Send me your microscopes asleep in dusty closets,

your tempest-tossed textbooks, your kits no longer used.

I lift my light beside the learning door—

where cast-off things become tomorrow’s seed. “For in this place, the worn is made worthy,

the outdated finds purpose, the broken finds repair;

and every rescued object carries forward

the quiet promise that nothing good is spare.

Let REMAP gather what time has set aside,

and place it gently in the hands of those who rise.
